October 2018 PMICV Monthly Newsletter October 2018 PMICV Chapter Newsletter Update  PMICV News and Events  October 17 Dinner Meeting Featuring Christopher Day - “Emerging Technologies and the Role of Project Management"  As emerging technologies like blockchain, smart contracts, AI, machine learning, and robotic process automation begin to be more adopted across different business verticals, the need to understand those technologies, what makes them tick, how they plug into the current IT environment will be even more important due to the potential impacts these new technologies will bring. Facilitating and developing open and effective working relationships with SMEs for these new technologies across the business is foundational to any Program or Project success. Leadership skills need to wrap around all these many new areas of expertise. Knowing what you are good at in this space, as well where and when you need help is very important.  Any change will test the leadership skills of each PM and BA engaged. Forewarned is forearmed. Christopher Day is a senior executive with a diverse background in IT-Vendor Management, Workforce Optimization, Resourcing, and Human Resources. He has worked diligently to raise awareness and develop business opportunities for RapidQube in North America. He feels that the technology, specifically blockchain, has the ability to transform current business processes as well as define businesses not yet in existence. Thanks again to all who attended. We received feedback from 27 attendees – a 34% response rate. Feedback was generally very good:   There were many positive comments regarding the meal and networking opportunities. Some constructive feedback of note included comments regarding the construction at Trader Duke’s being an inconvenience, and a number of attendees felt that the meeting was a little too rushed. Taking note of these and other comments to improve our events going forward. Speaking of the construction at Trader Dukes – be aware that our next dinner meeting event on October 17, will be at The Hampton Inn in Colchester. We excited for the change of venue and thankful to Trader Duke’s and The Hampton Inn for accommodating PMICV.   Our featured speaker was Michael Nir, PMP, President of Sapir Consulting US, Lean Agile inspiration expert, and best-selling author and speaker. Michael’s presentation and perspectives on servant leadership were insightful and inspiring. Using examples from his own experience in project management, as well as life experience, Michael shared a varied array of techniques to lead without authority, to influence others in a shared-power setting – as so many of us now do in this age of Agile transformation in many of our organizations. Michael also utilized several interactive exercises getting the crowd involved and actively participating, giving us a brief taste of what we might expect of a longer session with this seasoned speaker. We were also delighted to raffle off two copies of Michael’s latest book – see all his books offered here. Again, another great PMICV Dinner Event, where attendees shared meaningful discourse on relevant and timely topics impacting the Project Management and Business Analysis professions. Many respondents said they would like to have Michael return for a workshop on the same subject – what are your thoughts on this?
